Caleb T. - 1:30 pacer

Running is more than a hobby to Caleb, running has helped define the person he has become today! Running has given him his closest friends, paid for his college, and has showed him what hard work can do for you in all aspects of life. These reasons and many more are why he personally knows how helpful and inspiring it is to have someone next to you, pushing you, helping you, and making sure you are running the right race for YOU to run the goal time you are starting the race to run. He has had a lot of help through his ups and downs in his running and races, and that is why he knows how important and fun it is to help you with your goals. So, he will be out there using the smart pacing system to help you the day of your race! He's excited to meet you and he will see you out there!

Zachary B. - 1:30 pacer

Zac in three words: little, yellow, different. His mission as a pacer is to "make you slow down when you want to run too fast and make you speed up when you want to run too slow." He would say that the biggest mistake you can make, outside of failing to prepare, is to go out too fast. Zac was the 2008 Kansas City Marathon champion where he ran the first half of the race in 1:19 and the last half in 1:15 as he moved from tenth place to first place. After the race he was quoted as saying, "Praise God! I laughed. I cried. It was better than CATS!"

Since then he has trained for and participated in several 5 and 10K races, 7 Half Marathons, and 5 Marathons. 2:40 SmartPace Teams

Mary B. - 2:40 pacer

Mary has been running since 2006 when she decided to train for a half marathon as a way to break up the monotony of her only real form of exercise: bar-hopping. Despite having grown up with a dad who ran a sub-5-minute mile and could do marathons in his sleep, Mary had always thought running was just a little bit ridiculous. In fact, when she started to train for the Kansas City half that year, and really up until race day, she wasn't sure it was actually possible to run 13.1 miles all at once without stopping. Or dying. As it turned out, after surviving that first race, Mary found that she really liked running. She has since completed dozens of half marathons, 2.5 full marathons (funny story about the .5) and several triathlons. She has served as a pacer for millions of half marathons (yes, millions), ranging in time from 2:10 to 2:55. She would be delighted to run alongside you to help you meet your goal.

The pacing experience is about connecting with other runners and making that race that we are running together that day special to them. I believe in having fun and making the experience as enjoyable as possible regardless of the things that are out of our control. I have officially paced in 39 marathons, as well as other events throughout the US. I always look forward to my next running event and sharing my running experience as well as hearing othe peoples running experiences. My enjoyment especially comes from helping first timers complete their first race, whether it be a half-marathon or a marathon. I have helped marathoners get their Boston qualifying time, as well as helping runners set a Personal Record that day.

Raj M. - 4:30 pacer

Raj is an avid runner who has run marathons, half-marathons, and triathlons. In addition to formal events, Raj enjoys running with runners of different paces and capabilities in training running groups. While a regular runner, Raj also swims and bikes regularly. As a pacer, Raj is excited to help others achieve their goals and most importantly enjoy their race.

Danny M. - 4:30 pacer

Danny began running marathons with the 2005 Chicago Marathon and has completed more than 50 marathons and ultra-marathons since then. He paced for the first time in the 2010 Kansas City Marathon and has gone on to pace several more full and half marathons. Recently, he completed the Western States 100 mile endurance run - pretty much because of a great crew and pacers.

He tends to believe in having fun during a race while getting you to the finish line in mostly one piece. So, expect random trivia, pointless stories and occasional costume when running with him. He really believes in and tries to closely follow the SmartPace strategy during a run.

In real-life he's a MD/PhD student at the University of Kansas Medical Center. When he's not doing that...well, let's be honest, there's really not time for anything else.

Ken F. - 4:40 pacer

Ken started running for fitness and recreation in college and completed his first marathon in 1980. He intended to run his second in the fall of 1983 but medical school ended up taking more time than he thought. 25 years later, he decided to make priorities instead of excuses and has now finished 42 in 21 states (enough to qualify for platinum/8-star status in Marathon Maniacs). His current goal is to complete 52 in one year (22 to go). He practices SmartPacing principles in his own training/racing and in mentoring his son (who qualified for Half Fanatics when he was 10). Ken has paced half and full marathons in CA, CO, KS, MO, NE, and VA. Remind him to teach you the "Runner's World" knot and your shoes will never come untied during a race again.

Sheree R. - 4:40 pacer

Sheree speed-walked her first 5k in 2008. It was so much fun she quickly moved on to running and going longer distances. Sheree has now completed 8 marathons, dozens of half marathons, and multiple trail runs. She must have goals to roll out of bed at the crack of dawn, so entering races keeps her motivated. She absolutely loves running with people and can't wait to encourage you to achieve your goal!

Annette G. - 5:00 pacer

Annette has been running for 7 years and has run 15 marathons (12 states) and seven half-marathons. Last fall she ran her first ultra-marathon, North Face Endurance Challenge (31 miles) in 5:30. She has paced two marathons (KC) and five-half marathons and views this as an opportunity to help others reach their personal goals. Annette loves to run at a conversational pace, enjoying a walk break through each water station, and a good lean on the down-hill slide. In addition, a good walk break on a steep hill is a strong possibility. Her personal goal is to complete a 50-mile run by age 50 and to complete a marathon in all 50 states by her 65th birthday. She is excited to help every runner in her group reach the finish line right on time. Marathon PR: 4:28:23

Tom D. - 5:15 pacer

Tom has been running since Spring of 1978, running marathons March 9th, 1986, and pacing 2004. He has paced 15 marathons. His love outside of running is reading, which he does as often as he can. Being a son of a chef, he enjoys cooking. He became a vegetarian in 1977 and a vegan in 1994. He watches his sugar and salt intake carefully. Being a runner it is very challenging, since at times he needs to alter and take in more. The love of his life are his 4 kids, his cats. Yes, they are spoiled, but very loving. Without them life would be very lonely. 50M PR: 9:02. 24 Hour Run PR: 107 Miles.

Cynthia S. - 5:30 pacer

Cynthia has been a pace group leader for The Runner's Edge for seven years. By employing the SmartPace strategy, Cynthia has successfully completed more than 30 marathons (which includes serving as a pacer for KC in 2007-2011; Hospital Hill in 2009-2012; Olathe in 2008-2012; Rock the Parkway 2010-2012; and Lincoln, Neb. 2011-2012, as well as others); one ultra road run (33 miles), four ultra trail runs (44 miles x2, 38 miles and 31 miles), the Lake Tahoe Triple 2011 and many half marathons. She was awarded the Road Runner's Club of America Grand Master Award for her finish in the 2010 Brew-to-Brew solo. Cynthia believes running comes from the head, the heart and the gut. She works with her group to use all those to your advantage. And she really enjoys encouraging others to do what they've never done before -- to run farther, to run faster or just to run! And having fun is the best part of all. Her strategy is to go out slow for the first 2-3 miles, run a mile and then walk a minute, walk through the aid stations for up to a minute, go very slow up hills and make up the time on the down hills while making sure you have even effort breathing the whole time.

Sueann S. - 5:30 pacer

Sueann has been a runner with Runner's Edge for the past 6 years. She has paced 2 half marathons and 1 marathon. With the encouragement of her oldest son, she started running at the age of 53. Since then she has run 8 marathons and 7 half marathons including the “Goofy” run in Orlando and the Dublin Ireland Marathon. She believes in the Smart Pace method which includes a slow start for the first 2-3 miles; running a mile than walking a minute; walking through aid stations; going slow up hills, and increasing speed down the hill. She also believes running should be fun.
