Mike B. - 1:30 pacer
Mike started running long distance races in 2012 with a NY’s Resolution to finish a half marathon. He was soon hooked, logging thousands miles since then and reaching for and grabbing goals like qualifying for and running in Boston, running a 50 miler, and a sub-3:00 marathon (2:56). Having been helped by pacers himself, he appreciates the opportunity to return the favor by bringing his running zeal and experience to bear in helping you achieve your running goals.

Matt O. - 1:35 pacer
Matt started running cross country in high school after getting cut from the soccer team, and quickly fell in love with distance running. The camaraderie of group runs, the calm of a long solo run, and the thrill of racing are all integral parts of Matt's life. Matt has been a distance runner for 20 years, building up from 5k's to marathons and a couple ultras (not too many of those though!) Matt has completed 46 half marathons and 16 marathons, and is looking forward to helping people meet their goals as a pacer!

Chris G. - 1:40 pacer
Chris has run 46 marathons and about twice that many halfs, including pacing for 4 marathons and 20+ halfs. He enjoys distance running because it's excellent practice in not quitting, and entering marathons is good motivation for staying in shape.
For Chris as with most geezers, the idea of starting slow is appealing, and the Smartpacing strategy is a lot more enjoyable than running dead even splits. The challenge will be to see how many laughs can be generated the last part of the race.

Brandon S. - 1:40 pacer
Brandon has been an avid runner ever since he discovered the sport during his sophomore year of high school. This passion has lead him to run 2 marathons (Lincoln 2004 and Colorado 2011), 15k's, 10k's and numerous 5k's. Brandon has recently has recharged his enthusiasm with running to strive to achieve new heights he never ever thought were possible. In September of 2012, Brandon completed the North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Miler in Wisconsin in 8 hours and 30 minutes. It remains his most proudest running achievement to date. Living in Papillion Nebraska, Brandon continues to foster the love of the sport now as a Half-Marathon Pacer. He has paced over 10+ times using the SmartPacing Strategy. He knows his high energy, outgoing personality, and fun spirit will lead everyone to their goals on race day. Brandon can't wait to be a part of your PR experience.

Kelly D. - 1:45 pacer
Kelly was a competitive swimmer growing up and swam competitively in college at the University of Kansas. After college, Kelly began running and competing in triathlons. She is an All-American triathlete and really enjoys pacing running events and helping individuals reach their race day goals. Last year, Kelly paced the Kansas City marathon (3:40 pace) and the Lawrence 1/2 marathon (1:40 pace) and brought her teams in just under their goal times.

Jeff S. - 1:45 pacer
Jeff was a collegiate rower for the University of Kansas in the early '80's. His interest in running began in 2005. He has completed 17 marathons and over 40 half marathons. Jeff's current passion is the sport of triathlon. Jeff has completed two full Ironman distance races, over 10 half Ironman distance races and many shorter distance triathlons.

Erin G. - 1:50 pacer
Erin pretty much refused to do any kind of individual sports in high school--who want's all that pressure on just your shoulders?? When she went to college, however, she had to find something to compete in. Running it became. Her dad signed her up for her first race, a 10 mile run. Since then, she's competed in 8 half marathons, 12 Olympic distance triathlons, two 1/2 Ironman races, three 50Ks, two 50 milers and is pumped to have crossed "help someone finish a race" off her bucket list when she paced friends for 100 milers this past year. Now Erin knows, nothing is more rewarding, nor do you learn more about yourself, than finding the inner strength of an individual to finish a race.
Erin is a personal trainer in Omaha and works primarily with runners and triathletes. Ultra marathons and trail running are her passion, but also expect to hear good stories (she has her masters degree in story telling) and talk about lots of good food if you're in her pace group!

Scott M. - 1:50 pacer
Scott started running in 2010 at the age of 47 when he ran his first 5K. He quickly caught the running bug and started training to run further and faster. He has now completed 8 full marathons including, Boston (2016), Chicago (2015) and Disney (2015) and 18 half marathons. Scott starting pacing in 2016 and has paced 4 half marathons and found that helping others was as rewarding as PRing! Scott’s plans for 2017 include pacing Garmin Half and Running with the Cows Half, as well as running 4 other half marathons and running in Grandma’s marathon in June. Once the race is complete Scott enjoys celebrating with a nice frosty beverage.

Chris has run distances from track events to marathons. He has paced several marathons in KS, MO and NE and has paced many half-marathons as well. Up until collage all the running he did was for other sports. In collage he really began to grow attached to the sport and competed in XC and track. After collage running became a part of his daily routine. He enjoys helping others achieve their goals and creating a healthy lifestyle. He is an elementary reading specialist and coaches middle school XC, wrestling and track.

Jeremy Vrentas has lived in the Kansas City area his whole life. He just picked up running almost 4 years ago in hopes to do a 5k. Since then he has completed over 25+ Half marathon races and 3 Full marathons. He also along with just running does Triathlons. Garmin half marathon will be his first pacing duty and hopes to make it a great experience for the runners who around the 1:55 pace!

Dan has been running competitively for over 10 years, and has ran in over 20 half marathons and dozens of 10k and 5k races. He has been with the SmartPacing team since the Fall of 2015 and has enjoyed seeing many of his fellow runners achieve personal best times through the SmartPacing strategy. Dan utilized the SmartPacing strategy to achieve his own personal best time of 1:27 in the 2017 Arizona Rock and Roll Half Marathon. Dan is also a participant in Runner's Edge of Kansas City.
Dan believes in having a pacing plan for every race he competes in. His strategy is starting with a swift warm-up pace, settling into a consistent race pace, and saving some energy for a strong finish and a great race experience.
Dan loves helping those around them achieve their goals as a corporate trainer and professional speaker. He is excited to help his fellow runners achieve their goals and have fun while doing it!

Alyssa Blakeman is an experienced distance runner. She began her running career in high school running Cross Country and Track. She then went on to run Cross Country and Track for University of Central Missouri. While there she competed in various distances from 3K-10K. After Alyssa finished her college running career she went on to run various half marathons and 3 marathons. She has a love for running and the friendships it brings. Her half marathon PR is 1:42:38 and her marathon PR is 3:35:03. This will be Alyssa's first time pacing for a race. However she has over 10 years of running experience and will help you run the "smartest" race possible. Alyssa will be your biggest cheerleader while keeping you focused on your goal of completing your race. If it is your first or 31st half marathon you are sure to have a fun and successful race experience with Alyssa as your pacer.

Sara has mastered running and talking at the same time through her routine early morning runs with friends. She has run over 25 half marathons starting 12 years ago. Sara enjoys the challenge of half marathons without the intense training of a full marathon, though running Boston is still a goal for her. Sara's tip today is to stick with the pacing splits for the first few miles, and then you can plow forward later to beat the pace time. It is always tempting to surge forward at the start of the race. Sara is looking forward to helping you reach your race goal and to enjoy the experience along the way.

Jenny has been running for over 25 years and has completed 33 marathons with a goal to run one in every state! She has paced several races and enjoys helping other runners reach their goals. After running Boston, Jenny believes you can achieve anything with patience, motivation and hard work. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hanging out with friends and her family including her husband, newborn daughter (April 2016) and dog Rocky! Jenny's favorite quote is: “The pain that you feel during a workout or race is nothing compared to the pain that you’ll feel if you don’t meet your goal”. Jenny is energetic, passionate and motivating! She also believes in having fun when running, so you may get a laugh or two if you join her pace group!

Brian ran his first 1/2 marathon in the 2009 Kansas City race and stayed to watch a friend finish the full. The thought began with "Hey, I should be able to do this." So he signed up and completed his first full at the Bass Pro Marathon just 2 weeks later! Since then Brian has either run or paced numerous half & full marathons. His latest accomplishment was finishing the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run.
He enjoys the company of fellow runners and continues to be amazed at the accomplishments/success stories of other runners. You just never know who in your pace group is going to share a personal story that inspires you. Brian believes that running with the group and having the camaraderie provides a distraction from the sometimes experienced or perceived "pain". The more fun we have, the less we will notice the mile markers flying by.

Candy’s passion for running started in the 80’s when she ran cross country and track in college. After graduating, she still had that competitive drive so she began racing triathlons. Her racing background includes over 100 triathlons/duathlons, Chicago and Boston marathons, numerous road races at different distances, and three duathlon world championships. Candy works as a wellness coach and fitness instructor so she brings her passion for running and health to those she leads. She is inspired by people wanting to get into the running world. She loves encouraging first timers and seeing athletes of all abilities push themselves simply to improve on from where they began.

Laura is a former cross country runner who got hooked on half marathons in college. Her first half marathon was the Disneyworld half with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training. Almost twenty years later and many more races, the half marathon is still by far her favorite distance. She loves an energetic race with big crowds, enthusiastic volunteers, and friendly fellow runners.
Laura started pacing races this past year and really enjoys helping fellow runners meet their time goals. Outside of races, she can be found running on local trails with her kids on their bikes and tagging along in the jogging stroller.

Sueann has been a runner with Runner's Edge for the past 8 years. She has paced 8 half marathons and 5 marathons. With the encouragement of her oldest son, she started running at the age of 53. Since then she has run 13 marathons, 14 half marathons, and 1 ultra marathon. The variety of runs includes the “Goofy” run in Orlando and the Dublin Ireland Marathon. She believes in the Smart Pace method which includes a slow start for the first 2-3 miles; running a mile than walking a minute; walking through aid stations; going slow up hills, and increasing speed down the hill. She also believes running should be a fun and long lasting hobby.

Cynthia has been a pace group leader for The Runner's Edge for 13 years. By employing the SmartPace strategy, Cynthia has successfully completed 11 ultras (road and trail), 38 marathons and 43 halves.
She was awarded the Road Runner's Club of America Grand Master Award for her finish in the 2010 Brew-to-Brew solo. Cynthia believes running comes from the head, the heart and the gut. She works with her group to use all those to your advantage. And she really enjoys encouraging others to do what they've never done before -- to run farther, to run faster or just to run! And having fun is the best part of it all.
Her strategy is to go out slow for the first 2-3 miles, run a mile and then walk a minute, walk through the aid stations for up to a minute, go very slow up hills and make up the time on the down hills while making sure you have even effort breathing the whole time.

Melissa started running on Mother's Day 2012, and hasn't looked back since. Melissa runs long on Saturday mornings, changing locations throughout the city, and always enjoys a good cup of coffee afterwards. She cross trains several days a week, and really enjoys yoga and CrossFit. Since starting to run she has completed 44 half marathons, and countless shorter distance races. She is an active member of KC Express, and a Half Fanatic (#4222). Look for her at local races and be sure to say hello.

Deborah started running late in life, after her last of four children graduated from high school. Having watched her youngest run cross country for four years, something made her want to start running, as well. “You’re never too old to start,” she says. “Unlike so many sports, running is one you can do throughout your life.” Her first race was the Hospital Hill Run 10K and after that she went on to half marathons, having run 24 so far. Deborah has run 5 marathons but the half marathon is her favorite distance and she wants you to enjoy it just as much as she does. She says that pacers have played a big part in her racing experience so now she wants to pay that forward and help others along the way.

Baylie discovered her love for running while in middle school and spent her high school and college years sprinting around the track. After an 8 year (ish) gap, she re-discovered her love but decided to add a few more miles and started running 5ks and 10Ks. In 2012, she finally settled on the Garmin Half Marathon as her first and didn't look back after that. Since then she has completed over 15 half marathons and 5 marathons, which qualified her to be a member of Marathon Maniacs (#7914) in 2013. Earlier in 2015, she completed her first Ultra Marathon 50K (Virtual Cowtown) and followed it up with a solo finish of Brew to Brew and an attempt at the Canadian Death Race in August. She is very excited to do everything she can to help each runner finish and have a wonderful time while doing so!

Sharon started running after having 3 kids and was “bitten” by the marathon bug. Sharon has completed 15 marathons (her favorite marathons are the NY marathon and the Chicago Marathon), the Disney Dopey 48.6 mile challenge, 3 Twenty mile plus races (her absolute favorite race is in Big Sur, CA), more than 90 half marathons locally and across the country, and is a "Double Agent" (member of both the Half Fanatics and Marathon Maniacs national running clubs). Scotty J. - 3:00 pacer
Inspired by her marathoner daughter and motivated by a MS diagnosis and wheelchair in her past, Scotty started running in January 2008. She just completed her 39th half marathon. Yes, that means the Inaugural Longview Half Marathon will be number 40! She has also completed 5 marathons and a spattering of 5 and 10 K's. Her goal this year has been to log more miles and continue to have fun doing it. Scotty was fortunate to meet the best pacers on the planet the first time she ran Hospital Hill Run. That experience with Janice and Kelly continues to motivate and inspire especially on the "today is not a good running day" days. Scotty has the honor of being a former Hospital Hill Run Hero and after that experience was bitten by the pacer bug. She will use every idea in the Magic Pacer Bag of Tricks to help you cross the finish line. Not being a speedster herself, Scotty recognizes and understands the unique challenges faced by "back-of-the-packers". The goal is not just to finish, but to recognize and take pride in the individual accomplishment. And, have a GREAT time doing it!

Seth has been competing in marathons since 2009, totaling 13 races in 10 states, with his two fastest times in 2016. He is currently involved in the Kansas State University Running Club and Manhattan Cross Country Club, promoting running as both a sport and recreational activity, and training for the Brew to Brew solo ultra marathon in early April. Having successfully paced a half marathon last fall in the Kansas City area, he will be ready to help you reach your goals on race day in Olathe!

Andrew was a college swimmer converted triathlete competing in distances up to Madison Ironman in 2010 and Louisville in 2014 although his passion is mainly for running. His best running experience was when he ran Burning River 100 with huge support from his now Fiance along with friends and family. He is currently working on his goal of completing a marathon or longer distance in all 50 states with plans to have 39 completed by the end of 2016. Matt started running with high school football and track but didn't really become committed to endurance running until the past couple years and has fallen in love with running and being a part of the running community. Matt is convinced that pace groups add a huge benefit for people to reach their goals and is looking forward to sharing laughs and encouragement with you each mile of the race.

Scott started running several years ago as a new challenge and way to stay fit. He runs all distances from 5K to marathon as well as triathlons from Sprint to full Ironman but seems to find himself doing marathons the most. Ryan started running 6 years ago to improve his health. What started out as just a form of exercise turned into a passion. Ryan has ran 8 full marathons and several half marathons. After having a pacer help Ryan set a new PR he wanted to become a pacer and help someone else achieve their goal.

Terry W. - 3:45 pacer
Terry is married and has two children. In the absence of finding a sponsor to support his running career he works as a Systems Engineer to pay the bills.
In addition to running Terry enjoys biking, kayaking/canoeing and swimming. He likes to dabble in triathlons and adventure racing. He plans on completing a full Ironman triathlon after he retires. Terry didn’t start running until he was in his 30’s. Now in his 50’s he’s still going strong.
Terry ran is first marathon in 2000 with a time of 4 hours, 24 minutes. Since then he been averaging one marathon a year has whittled down his PR to 3 hours 26 seconds at the Chicago Marathon in 2014. Still in pursuit of a sub 3 hour marathon he is focusing on training and racing smarter.
He also enjoys studying Spanish. With his Colombian wife, Nubia, as his private tutor he is now conversational in Spanish. He has plans of starting French in the future with tentative plans to run the London or Paris marathons.

Adam "loves" waking up to run at 2:00am to get long runs in on weekdays before work. He has run 75+ marathons and ultramarathons so far and has a lot of "fun" doing them! He is often questioned by his view of "fun" and sometimes thinks they might be right...until about two days after the last race when he is ready to do it again!
He has paced the Olathe Marathon twice, Lincoln Marathon, and Kansas City Marathon and has finished under the goal time each time. He loves the SmartPace Strategy and the thrill of pacing someone to help them meet their goal at the marathon.

Wael has been running since 2008. He has completed several ultra trail races, several half marathons and full marathons. He enjoys trail running with the Kansas City Trail Nerds. Wael completed three 100 mile ultra runs with a sub-24 hour finish in Feb, 2014.

Robert started running in high school cross country but took several years off after that. He began running again just a couple years ago and since then has ran 14 Marathons and many half's. He contributes most if his success to his long time training partners, "they get me up and get me motivated" He said, "We log a LOT of miles together and frankly I would never have gotten anywhere without them". Tim H. - 4:15 pacer
Tim started running marathons in 2002 at the KC Marathon. Since then he was run 54 more, for a total of 55 entering 2017. He enjoys both road and trail running. 8 of his marathons have been on trails. Tim has run the Boston Marathon 3 times, and established his PR there in 2015 with a 3:08. Tim is a member of the Kansas City Track Club-Lee's Summit group and runs with his friends there every Saturday. This will be his first year as a pacer and he is looking forward to helping others reach their goals and sharing the joy that running brings to all of us.

Stephen L. - 4:30 pacer
Stephen picked up running in 2010 after realizing that two little curtain climbers needed their dad to be able to romp and play instead of sitting on the couch eating potato chips. Inspired by his brother who had also achieved great health results via running, he trained and completed his first 10k at the TLC Groundhog in January 2011. Since then he has run 5ks, 10ks, 10 mile trail, 20 mile trail, 50K trail, 44 miler at Brew2Brew multiple times, a bunch of full marathons, countless half marathons, sprint and international distance triathlon along with an ironman distance in 2014. His first marathon was the MO Cowbell in St. Charles, MO. His half marathon PR came in 2013, which was run purely for fun. The social and all inclusive aspect of running and multi-sport is what keeps Stephen going so don't be surprised if you end up run BFF's by the time your race is over. Stephen has plans to complete more trail runs, marathons, and half marathon pacing.

Greg has run competetively for 30 years. He has completed 50 marathons, including the Boston Marathon 5 times, and over 100 half marathons. He is an 9 year cancer survivor. Greg enjoys helping others meet their goals and his enthusiasm towards running is infectious.

Mike has completed 167 marathons in 39 different states. His past pacing experiences have included the Kansas City Marathon, the Lincoln Marathon and the Olathe Marathon. Mike is passionate about sharing his many running experiences with others and supporting all marathoners in doing their personal best.

I am an avid endurance athlete competing in: Ironman Triathlons, Ironman 70.3 Triathlons, Sprint Triathlons, Ultra Marathons, Marathons, Half Marathons and local 10k and 5k races. These taking place all over the United States.
My favorite running event is the marathon. It’s a great experience! There are people everywhere; runners and fellow competitors swarming all over the place. One really feels a sense of unity and solidarity as we all run and cheer together as one. In the life of an endurance athlete, it is a huge milestone. It’s a race we will never forget. No two marathons are ever alike. Each has story of its own. The sense of pride that overcomes you as you cross that finish line is indescribable, truly making it an extremely rewarding endeavor.

Ken F. - 5:00 pacer
Ken started running for fitness and recreation in college and completed his first marathon in 1980. He intended to run his second in the fall of 1983 but medical school ended up taking more time than he thought. 25 years later, he decided to make priorities instead of excuses and has now finished 240 marathons, including at least one in every state. He has also earned titanium/10-star status in Marathon Maniacs 4 years in a row by completing at least 52 in 52 weeks, qualifying him for the Hall of Fame. He practices SmartPacing principles in his own training/racing and in mentoring his son (who has been a Half Fanatic since he was 10 and Marathon Maniac since he was 12). Ken has paced 90 marathons and hopes you'll have a great time on the way to beating your goal time.

Tom M. - 5:00 pacer
Tom ran track and cross country in high school, and after graduation
ran his first marathon, the Heart of America, in 1976. He ran various
10Ks (PR 35:00) and also got his marathon PR of 3:12 in the 1980's.
After a couple decade kid and job induced sabbatical from running,
he returned in 2010. He has waddled through 15 marathons and
numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons. With help from excellent
pacers he got his first BQ at the Oklahoma City marathon in 4/24/16.
Again, aided by excellent pacing, he got a recent PR at Hospital Hill.
Inspired by the enthusiasm and dedication of these pacers, Tom
paced the Joplin marathon. He looks forward to helping runners
achieve their goals with the SmartPacing system.

Kristin has been running for about 7 years, a mix of road and trail. She generally high fives roughly 83% of the kids on the course, and her favorite running fuel is frozen pizza.

Melissa S. - 5:15 pacer
Melissa started running to drop that “freshman 15” since then running has become her passion. After seeing what exercise can do she became a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. Since 2008 Melissa has ran 14 marathons, with two more planned for the year. This last May she completed The Ice Age Ultra Marathon- 50 Miles! It was challenging but well worth it! Melissa loves to challenge herself along with others and looks forward to pushing you along the way!

Annette G. - 5:30 pacer
Annette has been running for 7 years and has run 15 marathons (12 states) and seven half-marathons. Last fall she ran her first ultra-marathon, North Face Endurance Challenge (31 miles) in 5:30. She has paced two marathons (KC) and five-half marathons and views this as an opportunity to help others reach their personal goals. Annette loves to run at a conversational pace, enjoying a walk break through each water station, and a good lean on the down-hill slide. In addition, a good walk break on a steep hill is a strong possibility. Her personal goal is to complete a 50-mile run by age 50 and to complete a marathon in all 50 states by her 65th birthday. She is excited to help every runner in her group reach the finish line right on time.

Lindsey M. - 5:30 pacer
Lindsey was active in high school and ran for fitness off and on through college. After the birth of her son in 2014, she picked up running to lose the baby weight. She set a goal in 2015 to run her first half marathon, and was able to complete 4 half marathons, 3 of which within 60 days - qualifying as a Half Fanatic (#12988)! What started as fitness goals, running became a passion and a way to relax and unwind. Lindsey is eager to encourage other people to run their best race. Lindsey's PR was set at the KC Half Marathon in 2015 with the help of the Smart Pacers and became a pacer to help others achieve their goals.
