Caleb T. - 1:25 pacer
Running is more than a hobby to Caleb, running has helped define the person he has become today! Running has given him his closest friends, paid for his college, and has showed him what hard work can do for you in all aspects of life. These reasons and many more are why he personally knows how helpful and inspiring it is to have someone next to you, pushing you, helping you, and making sure you are running the right race for YOU to run the goal time you are starting the race to run. He has had a lot of help through his ups and downs in his running and races, and that is why he knows how important and fun it is to help you with your goals. So, he will be out there using the smart pacing system to help you the day of your race! He's excited to meet you and he will see you out there!

Matt J. - 1:30 pacer
Matt is new to the pacing community and is excited to help dedicated runners achieve their goals. His love for running was discovered 20 years ago in high school where his successes led him to Northwest Missouri State where he competed for the Bearcats in the late '90s. After running sporadically for over a decade just to stay in shape, Matt has recently started coaching young runners and has returned to competitive running once again himself. Matt can't wait to help you find success with the SmartPace strategy and looks forward to seeing everyone's hard work pay off.

Chris G. - 1:40 pacer
Chris has run 35 marathons and about twice that many halfs, including pacing for a couple of marathons and 9 halfs. He enjoys distance running because it's excellent practice in not quitting, and entering marathons is good motivation for staying in shape.
For Chris as with most geezers, the idea of starting slow is appealing, and the Smartpacing strategy is a lot more enjoyable than running dead even splits. The challenge will be to see how many laughs can be generated the last part of the race.
Half Marathon PR: 1:22

Helping others to achieve their goals is a great passion of hers, and is one of the main reasons she enjoys being a part of a pace team.
Half Marathon PR: 1:37
Crystal H. - 2:10 pacer
Crystal loves to be active! She has been running for 22+ years with many 2 mile fun runs, 5K's, 10K's, half-marathons, full marathons, adventure races, and triathlons under her belt! The love of each sport is endless and is quickly becoming a learned behavior in her two young boys which are quite the motivators. They love the jogging stroller and the bike buggy which makes fitness even more fun and sometimes more challenging. Graduating with a degree in kinesiology has helped her to continue to be involved with sport and activity in everyday life. She enjoys the overwhelming sense of accomplishment in each race and has felt completely blessed to learn the smart pace strategy. Crystal feels as though there are no words to describe the joy that one can get out of being a pacer. The highfives, the thank you's, the hugs, and the stories of reaching a goal at the end of the race are so rewarding. She always makes sure to mark on her pace band where the water stops and bathrooms are. This can be a complete motivator to others and can sometimes make the race seem smoother or go by faster. Something Crystal likes to always remember is that "she is lucky to be able to do this, there are others that are not as fortunate to even be able to try"! Goodluck Runners.......

She will do whatever it takes to help a fellow runner find their inner strength to finish, even if it means being a little goofy! If you're looking for an edge, an ally, and an amazing pacer, Grete is your girl!
Half Marathon PR: 1:45
Bryan L. - 2:15 pacer
Bryan LeBar has been running ever since he took “The Marathon Class” in college and completed his first marathon. Bryan has completed numerous half marathons and several marathons. Bryan looks forward to helping runners achieve their goal times while keeping spirits high. His favorite race distance is the half marathon as it's long enough that you have to train for it, but not so long that it consumes your life. It's also a distance that can impress your friends. "You ran how far? 13.1, like, miles?" He still runs marathons though so he can eat whatever he wants. Bryan usually walks through aid stations when he is pacing.
Half Marathon PR: 1:46
Jamie M. - 2:20 pacer
Jamie has been a runner and triathlete for 10 years and a SmartPacer for the past 6 years. Her goal is to help you enjoy your run and cross the finish line with a smile on your face! As a mom of two, she understands the importance of having a fun and enjoyable run. Her plan is to start out conservatively with our speed, slow down at the aid stations, and adjust our speed to accommodate hills. She will run an even effort, not an even pace. She is excited to run with you...and to not be running with a double jogging stroller :)
Half Marathon PR: 1:49
Kim M. - 2:20 pacer
After running cross country in high school, Kim later had a goal to train and run one marathon in life. However, after running her first marathon in 2005, she soon caught the "running bug" and has now completed close to 20 marathons- including the Boston Marathon, several half marathons, and 1 ultra-marathon (50K). Kim enjoys being involved with this endurance sport mainly for the camaraderie found with other runners, being outside with nature, and the health benefits- including having more freedom with her diet. She also loves the high energy and enthusiasm that race day brings! Kim likes to approach each race like a fun science experiment- despite one's training, one really never knows what is going to happen on race day. Kim has paced several half marathons in the past and finds it rewarding to see & hear the excitement other runners have as they achieve the goal they have set out for!
Half Marathon PR: 1:42
Cynthia D. - 2:25 pacer
Cyndi began running about 2 1/2 years ago after her husband suffered a heart attack at the age of 35. As her husband recovered and started to work out to get healthy he took to running. In order to encourage him (and to keep a close eye on him) Cyndi decided to lace up her shoes as well. As a sprinter in school, distance running was a daunting challange. Starting slow and working up in milage, Cyndi ran several local 5k and 10k runs. As her confidence began to build she decided to "put her best foot forward" and began training for her first 1/2 marathon, the Dallas Rock N Roll. After finishing the Dallas 1/2 in under the 2:30 goal she had set for herself she decided to push forward and to date has completed 10 1/2 marathons and completed her first full marathon at the Little Rock Marathon last spring. Cyndi's average time for the 1/2 marathon is 2:20, and set a p.r. in the Louisiana Half Marathon in Jan. 2012 in 1:57. Cyndi loves to encourage runners and loves to see the emotion on their faces when they finish the run.
Half Marathon PR: 1:57:54
Jason D. - 2:25 pacer
Jason enjoys running and participating in races throughout the country with friends and family. Jason got back into running after experiencing a heart attack at the age of 35. Running played a big role in helping Jason to lose 40lbs and maintain his weight loss. Jason has completed numerous 5K and 10K events, over 10 half marathons and 6 marathons. Jason is always searching for that next running adventure! Jason is new to pacing, but loves crunching the numbers and looks forward to having a great time and helping runners finish in their goal time. Jason was nominated as the 2011 Hospital Hill Hero and found that to be an incredibly rewarding experience, assisting and motivating runners to reach the finish line.
Half Marathon PR: 1:43:45
Cristal B. - 2:30 pacer
Cristal LOVES pacing any distance from 5K to 26.2. A fitness instructor & born optimist, Cristal loves to run at a conversational pace, enjoying a walk break through each water station, with enough time to thank volunteers and high-five as many cheering kids along the course as possible. She believes anyone can run a marathon with the right attitude and a little ambition, you've just got to keep going - a motto which has worked for her in 33 marathons. Her personal goal is to complete her 50 states by her 50th birthday (23 down, 27 to go!), and to eventually run just fast enough to BQ. She looks forward to meeting you & helping you cross the finish line exactly on time!
Half Marathon PR: 1:55:58
Janice W. - 2:30 pacer
As of the writing of this I have completed 11 marathons and will be doing my 12th in 4 days. Phew! (I've done a bunch of half marathons too, but I don't have a count on that. Hope "bunch" is good enough.)
I am thrilled every time I get to participate in an event. I am especially happy when I'm pacing. I meet the best people who inspire me so much. I am honored to get to do this. I am neither the fastest or the slowest runner. I am the runner I am. For every day I get to run I am truly grateful. I hope I can share this joy with those I pace.
Half Marathon PR: 1:57
Annette G. - 2:35 pacer
Annette has been running for 7 years and has run 15 marathons (12 states) and seven half-marathons. Last fall she ran her first ultra-marathon, North Face Endurance Challenge (31 miles) in 5:30. She has paced two marathons (KC) and five-half marathons and views this as an opportunity to help others reach their personal goals. Annette loves to run at a conversational pace, enjoying a walk break through each water station, and a good lean on the down-hill slide. In addition, a good walk break on a steep hill is a strong possibility. Her personal goal is to complete a 50-mile run by age 50 and to complete a marathon in all 50 states by her 65th birthday. She is excited to help every runner in her group reach the finish line right on time.

Veteran runner/triathlete of 12 marathons 10 triathlons 1 ultra marathon and too many to count half marathons!! One of the 12 was a international marathon in Argentina in 2006.
Pacing will be the Smartpacing concept. We will walk thru the aid stations for 1 minute while drinking.
Half Marathon PR: 1:50
Brian B. - 2:40 pacer
Brian ran his first 1/2 marathon in the 2009 Kansas City race and stayed to watch a friend finish the full. The thought began with "Hey, I should be able to do this." So he signed up and completed his first full at the Bass Pro Marathon just 2 weeks later! Since then Brian has either run or paced numerous half & full marathons. His latest accomplishment was finishing the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run.
He enjoys the company of fellow runners and continues to be amazed at the accomplishments/success stories of other runners. You just never know who in your pace group is going to share a personal story that inspires you. Brian believes that running with the group and having the camaraderie provides a distraction from the sometimes experienced or perceived "pain". The more fun we have, the less we will notice the mile markers flying by.
Half Marathon PR: 1:43
Amanda Z. - 2:45 pacer
Amanda is a former collegiate soccer player who, until recently, would never have thought she would run "for fun" more than the staple 3/4 miles a few times a week. In the summer of 2010, she joined a friend on her training runs as her friend prepared for her first marathon. In doing so, Amanda discovered she was able to run distances beyond her previous measures and took great joy in setting new personal goals of her own. She was motivated to run her first 1/2 marathon in the fall of 2010, her first marathon in March 2011, qualify for Boston in June 2011, and participated in many other races in between. Through these endeavors she met numerous runners who graciously supported and encouraged her along the journey. She hopes to pass this along to others by helping them meet their running goals while having a fun and rewarding experience.
Half Marathon PR: 1:52:32
Jennifer F. - 2:45 pacer
After a brief stint in high school track, Jennifer rejoined the world of running in 2007. She completed a number of 5K and 10K races and several half marathons before completing her first marathon in 2009. Jennifer began pacing in 2010. Her favorite part of pacing is getting to re-experience the feeling of your "first race" each time she paces a race.
Half Marathon PR: 2:07:12
Sueann S. - 2:50 pacer
Sueann has been a runner with Runner's Edge for the past 6 years. She has paced 2 half marathons and 1 marathon. With the encouragement of her oldest son, she started running at the age of 53. Since then she has run 8 marathons and 7 half marathons including the “Goofy” run in Orlando and the Dublin Ireland Marathon. She believes in the Smart Pace method which includes a slow start for the first 2-3 miles; running a mile than walking a minute; walking through aid stations; going slow up hills, and increasing speed down the hill. She also believes running should be fun.
Cynthia S. - 2:50 pacer
Cynthia has been a pace group leader for The Runner's Edge for seven years. By employing the SmartPace strategy, Cynthia has successfully completed more than 30 marathons (which includes serving as a pacer for KC in 2007-2011; Hospital Hill in 2009-2012; Olathe in 2008-2012; Rock the Parkway 2010-2012; and Lincoln, Neb. 2011-2012, as well as others); one ultra road run (33 miles), four ultra trail runs (44 miles x2, 38 miles and 31 miles), the Lake Tahoe Triple 2011 and many half marathons.
She was awarded the Road Runner's Club of America Grand Master Award for her finish in the 2010 Brew-to-Brew solo. Cynthia believes running comes from the head, the heart and the gut. She works with her group to use all those to your advantage. And she really enjoys encouraging others to do what they've never done before -- to run farther, to run faster or just to run! And having fun is the best part of all.
Her strategy is to go out slow for the first 2-3 miles, run a mile and then walk a minute, walk through the aid stations for up to a minute, go very slow up hills and make up the time on the down hills while making sure you have even effort breathing the whole time.
Half Marathon PR: 2:25

Amy C. - 3:00 pacer
Amy owes her love for running to her son's cross country coach. The coach encouraged parents to run the road races with the team. One race and she was hooked! After running several 5ks, she decided to give the longer distances a try. Her first half was Hospital Hill in Kansas City. That same coach paced her all the way!!! Amy believes that life should be lived to the fullest and that a positive attitude makes life more fun!!! Come join Amy and be uplifted as we take each mile as it comes with a smile!!!
Half Marathon PR: 2:39
Scotty J. - 3:00 pacer
Inspired by her marathoner daughter and motivated by a MS diagnosis and wheelchair in her past, Scotty started running in January 2008. Four years, 14 half marathons, 2 marathons and a spattering of 5 and 10 K's later her goal this year is to log more miles and continue to have fun doing it. Scotty was fortunate to meet the best pacers on the planet the first time she ran Hospital Hill Run. That experience with Janice and Kelly continues to motivate and inspire especially on the "today is not a good running day" days. Hospital Hill Run is a highlight of the running calendar and is a race Scotty looks forward to every year. Scotty has the honor of being a former HHR Hero and was a co-pacer with Patti last year. Not being a speedster herself, Scotty recognizes and understands the unique challenges faced by "back-of-the-packers". The goal is not just to finish, but to recognize and take pride in the individual accomplishment. And, have a GREAT time doing it!

Adam "loves" waking up to run at 2:00am to get long runs in on weekdays before work. He has run 75+ marathons and ultramarathons so far and has a lot of "fun" doing them! He is often questioned by his view of "fun" and sometimes thinks they might be right...until about two days after the last race when he is ready to do it again!

Through his high energy and motivation, Kenny is confident he can help you achieve your goal time.
What does he enjoy about running? Helping people in reaching their goals, being active, and the camaraderie and atmosphere in the running community. Also, running allows him to eat lots of Peanut M&Ms (it's a mild addiction...ha) without too much guilt.

Ali H. - 3:50 pacer
Ali has been an avid runner and fitness enthusiast for the past 15 years. Running became Ali’s main choice of exercise when she realized how uncoordinated she was at any sport involving equipment. After deciding to give running a try, it was soon realized that she had a gift, and her love of running began.
Following the Dallas White Rock Marathon on December 4, 2011, Ali may now call herself a marathon runner, and Boston Qualifier. These titles are highly coveted, and Ali plans to keep them going with many more marathons to come in the future. Half marathons, 10k’s and 5k’s are always among the “To-Do” list as well.
Ali will keep you positive during your race, and be there for you as you reach and exceed your goals.
Aside from running, Ali loves to shop, drink wine, read and attend social outings. When Ali is not writing about running and fitness on her blog mileswithstyle.com, she is writing about her shopaholic habits and time well spent with family and friends.
Marathon PR: 3:32
Danny M. - 4:00 pacer
Danny began running marathons with the 2005 Chicago Marathon and has completed more than 50 marathons and ultra-marathons since then. He paced for the first time in the 2010 Kansas City Marathon and has gone on to pace several more full and half marathons. Recently, he completed the Western States 100 mile endurance run - pretty much because of a great crew and pacers.
He tends to believe in having fun during a race while getting you to the finish line in mostly one piece. So, expect random trivia, pointless stories and occasional costume when running with him. He really believes in and tries to closely follow the SmartPace strategy during a run.
In real-life he's a MD/PhD student at the University of Kansas Medical Center. When he's not doing that...well, let's be honest, there's really not time for anything else.

Sheena R. - 4:50 pacer
Sheena R. is many things. She is a mother, a teacher, an avid reader, a world traveler, and very proud to consider herself a crazy marathon runner. She had never been a runner until 6 months after her first child was born (at 25 years old). As a way to get rid of the baby weight and get back in shape, she began running 1 mile (3 times a week). Soon she was running 3 miles, then 5, then once she hit the 8 mile distance, she knew she was hooked! Nine months after beginning her running journey, Sheena ran the Portland Marathon with her mother. Her mother had begun running at 42 years young and had been Sheena's inspiration for running because she could see all the positive changes it was making, not only in her physical health, but her outlook on life. They crossed the finish line at 4:45. Since then, (4 years later) Sheena has now run a total 4 marathons in 4 states, including: Portland, OR; Couer d' Alene, ID; Lincoln, NE; and North Bend, WA. At the North Bend Tunnel Run, she reached her sub- 4 hour goal time at 3:59, which she dedicated to her mom who could not run that race due to injury. Running makes Sheena feel balanced and healthy. She is a better person when she can get out and log a few miles each day. Sheena hopes to be a role model for a healthy lifestyle by infecting her family, friends, students, and community members with the love of running. Becoming a pacer is just the icing on the cake, the obvious next step in her running career. She cannot wait to be a part of helping fellow marathon runners reach their running goals, and to be right there with them when they cross the finish line; this is more exciting than she can ever hope to be able to explain. A great running friend once reminded her, and she wants to remind you... you will never regret stepping out the door to go for a run. So get out there and get after it. Once you reach this goal, you will realize that you are capable of so much more than you ever knew and so many doors will be open to you! Sheena is signed up to run the San Francisco Marathon this June making it her 5th marathon in 5 states. She is hoping to continue a trend of doing races all over the country and possibly the world. She loves reaching her goals and hopes to be there to see you reach yours!
